I was briefly a member of Candye Kane's touring band, first on piano, later on bass.
We did a few tours together, visting Norway, Lithuania, Slovakia, Croatia, and was
a guest at her final performance in San Diego. She also sings a duet with me on my
album The Secret To Success, and was co-founder of United By Music. A very inspiring
singer and songwriter who led a colorful life and inspired many people all over the
globe with her message of universal respect for everyone (as exemplified by her support
of people with mental disabilities in United By Music). She had the power to turn
obstacles in her path into sources of inspiration: her battle with cancer, the
cruel responses to her large body and to her past work in porn, everything was fuel
to the fire with which she promoted acceptance of ones body, ones sexuality, ones
mental or physical limitations. But let's not forget: she was also a fantastic
singer, wrote some really great songs, and helped launch the careers of several
amazing blues musicians, notably the terrific guitarist Laura Chavez.
